THE WEDGE
The intervention begins with a very specific existing condition: a garden shaped slowly over many years. More than an available void, the backyard had already become a consolidated domestic landscape, composed of successive terraces, mature vegetation, a vegetable garden, shrubs, and two young trees — an arupo and an avocado tree — whose presence projected a future condition more than a present one.
The need was to incorporate an independent and flexible space without altering what gives value to the site. Rather than resolving the program with a conventional rectangular volume placed at the back of the lot, the project proposes a different operation. The position of the two trees, offset from one another, ceases to be understood as a constraint and becomes the origin of the form.
A diagonal drawn between the two high boundary walls defines a triangular geometry capable of preserving both trees while avoiding the construction of a new limit along the neighboring garden. The new volume appears as a wedge inserted between existing conditions, occupying the minimum necessary footprint while maintaining the visual and ecological continuity of the landscape.
The plan concentrates services and fixed elements at one end, freeing the remainder of the interior as a single adaptable space capable of accommodating different uses over time.
The structure is resolved through slender steel profiles inserted into an existing stone and cyclopean concrete foundation, minimizing interventions on the site while taking advantage of a pre-existing structure. This base also becomes a technical band that accommodates services and accompanies the perimeter of the building. The dry-construction system allowed for a rapid and precise assembly process, reducing construction time and minimizing impact on the site.
Facing the garden, a continuous glazed façade establishes a direct relationship with the surrounding vegetation. In the bathroom area, the foliage of the avocado tree acts as a natural privacy filter, reinforced by translucent glass that softens views while preserving the presence of the landscape.
The proposal is a precise intervention within an already constructed territory. It recognizes the value of a domestic landscape shaped over time, where the Wedge finds its place, allowing vegetation and everyday life to remain the true protagonists.

LA CUÑA
La intervención surge de una condición existente muy precisa: un jardín construido lentamente a lo largo de los años. Más que un vacío disponible, el patio posterior era ya un paisaje doméstico consolidado, compuesto por plataformas sucesivas, vegetación madura, huerta, arbustos y dos árboles jóvenes —un arupo y un aguacate— cuya presencia proyectaba un tiempo futuro más que una condición actual.
La necesidad consistía en incorporar un espacio independiente y flexible sin alterar aquello que otorga valor al lugar. Frente a la posibilidad de resolver el programa mediante una construcción rectangular apoyada sobre el fondo del terreno, el proyecto propone una operación distinta. La posición desalineada del arupo y el aguacate deja de entenderse como una restricción y pasa a convertirse en el origen de la forma.
Una diagonal trazada entre las dos medianeras altas define una geometría triangular capaz de preservar ambos ejemplares y evitar la construcción de un nuevo límite sobre el jardín vecino. La nueva pieza aparece así como una cuña que se inserta entre las preexistencias, ocupando el mínimo espacio necesario y manteniendo la continuidad visual y vegetal del conjunto.
La planta concentra los servicios y el equipamiento fijo en uno de sus extremos, liberando el resto del interior como un único espacio adaptable a distintas formas de uso a lo largo del tiempo.
La estructura se resuelve mediante perfiles metálicos insertados en un sobrecimiento existente de piedra y hormigón ciclópeo, minimizando las intervenciones sobre el terreno y aprovechando una estructura preexistente. Este basamento se transforma además en una banda técnica capaz de incorporar instalaciones y acompañar el perímetro construido. El sistema en seco permitió una ejecución rápida y precisa, reduciendo el tiempo de obra y el impacto sobre el lugar.
Hacia el jardín, una fachada vidriada continua establece una relación directa con la vegetación existente. En el sector del baño, el follaje del aguacate actúa como filtro natural de privacidad, reforzado por un vidrio traslúcido que difumina las vistas sin perder la presencia del paisaje.
La propuesta es una intervención precisa sobre un territorio construido. Reconocemos el valor de un paisaje doméstico trabajado en el tiempo, donde la Cuña encuentra su lugar en él, permitiendo que la vegetación y la vida cotidiana continúen siendo los verdaderos protagonistas.
